So at the very last minute Lungelo, Souljaz Prosper & all of me & my lil one, made our way to Cinema Nouveau, Rosebank, for the Pre-Release Screening of *uMalusi*, the much anticipated digital, indie feature film.
Amongst the Cinema who's who were the creatives behind the Film itself, there was the odd schlebs...i noticed ShugaSmaxx, Slikour & one or 2 other people who's names i don't know *blush blush*.
I myself have born witness to the creative genius, toil and dedication which has gone into this feature making it to the big screen...all be it in the Post Production stages.
Despite the brilliant delivery by Producer Jahmil X.T Qubeka & Director Mlandu Sikwebu...I was there not so much to watch but to tantalize another sense and listen...
For months and months and days and nights I watched my Crush, Boyfriend, Lover, Husband & then Baby Daddy sweat over cleaning the sound up, installing sound effects, recording voice overs...syncing voice overs and composing a breath-taking soundtrack which is unrivaled in South African Feature Film history...
All those nights I fell asleep on the large comfy white suede couch at ZA Kingmakers Studios and all those Sunday afternoons delivering eSkaftin to Bootleggaz for my baby was more than worth it!
Lungelo has created a masterpiece in Music!
The music, sounds, songs and interludes create an evocative journey...not mimicking...but complementing the visual tapestry of the film itself.
The movie, set in the East London township of Mdantsane, is XHOSA!
(Interestingly, Lungelo lived there for some time during his childhood...so has some affinity to the unique culture of SA'a second largest township.)
The Soundtrack consists. mostly of Musical score from the SPAZASHOP Album. a Xhosa Collaborative initiative produced by soundBourne and featuring Lungelo, Kritsi, Kanyi, Souljaz Prosper, Driemanskaap, Koriander, ChroniXeed & Lu Chase.
The title track, another soundBourne gem is performed by Lungelo & features Morale.
These 2 boois strike gold everytime they come together:)
One of my favorite parts in the movie is the cocaine induced passionate *skkk skkk* between Malusi & his best friend's little sister...not because of the cocaine induced passionate *skkk skkk* but because of the song...
"Love Me"...
It's amazing...
Needless to say, when the soundtrack was mentioned and Lungelo called to Screen for a bow...he received a standing ovation and shouts of thrilling admiration for an excellent piece of work...and it carried on through the night.
(The Indian in me kicked herself for not setting up a "Stand" outside the main theater with ripped Soundtrack CD-R's in Photocopied print sleeves. I could have minted it!!!)
So yeah...my Baby does it again and astounds even me with what he can accomplish and the magic he creates with sounds and vocals...
Oh yeah...and people really really liked the flick too...
